Heathrow launches “on-board picnic” service

It’s an entirely new idea: an “on-board picnic” dining option where passengers can bring a bespoke hamper with them on their flight departing from Heathrow Airport. The service is now available at all of the airport’s 118 restaurants across its five terminals. This includes major brands like Pret a Manger, EAT and restaurants like Heston Blumenthal’s Perfectionist Cafe and Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food.

Hampers vary in price and size, according to the venue but they typically cost between £5 and £50 and are available in 40 x 20 x 10 collapsible insulated lunch boxes that can easily be stored under the seat in front of you or in an overhead locker until you’re feeling peckish.

Heathrow, we toss our hats off to you, this is a brilliant new way to dine in the sky and one we’ll definitely be trying on our next flight from London!
