BlueField Burger Company from Greece opens in Bahrain
You must have read about Bluefield Burger in our September issue. Why you ask? Well, for one it is snugly located at Al Raya mall in Juffair. Also, the restaurant has a well-lit, stylish interior which is inviting. The food is great too and last month we found out just why?
The man behind Bluefield Burger, Angelos Katakouzenos was in Bahrain and we were invited to interview him (Catch my EXCLUSIVE with Angelos in one of our sooner issues) and try out some of his creations. It was the perfect brunch, not too heavy but just filling and definitely delicious.
We started off with a mini burgerette (see feature image) and a salad. The succulent burger patty blended well with the condiments and the salad was refreshing to say the least with strawberries, cheese shavings and a pomegranate molasses dressing – the tanginess it offers is different from say balsamic vinegar or lemon.
We tried out one of Angelos’ specialties, a brisket sandwich with tender meat, slowcooked for 14 hours, tightly tucked in a burger bun. I’m not a huge fan of red meat but enjoyed tasting this dish, a meat lover’s delight. The brunch ended with a stunning dessert of pavlova, topped with sour cherry compote and cream. I’ve been craving to taste Pavlova forever and I must say the wait was worth it. The hard texture on the outside beautifully contrasts the chewy texture on the inside while the compote and cream just melt in your mouth – HEAVEN!
We washed down these yummy dishes with a bottle of flavoured water and a special drink, Mastika or Masticha which is a liquor seasoned with mastic, a resin gathered from the mastic tree, a small evergreen tree native to the Mediterranean region. This drink is specially flown from Greece and helps stave off many illnesses if drunk on a consistent basis. All the food at Bluefield Burger is made from fresh, healthy ingredients. Ioana Cristina Ghinea, Sales Manager at ITICO, the company managing Bluefield Burger tells me how they want to promote healthy eating in Bahrain. “It’s better to eat little of a good thing than a lot of an unhealthy thing,” she says. Cristina and her team intend to promote healthy eating not just through Bluefield Burger but also other outlets, both restaurants and other stores at the mall.
